Overview
bluewin is one of Switzerland’s most visited news portals, operated by Swisscom. Reaching millions of readers daily, the platform delivers breaking news, lifestyle, and sports coverage across German, French, and Italian-speaking regions. To sustain its pace and reliability, Swisscom integrated Livingdocs as the publishing backbone, introducing modular editing, instant publishing, and real-time collaboration into the newsroom. Centralsoft joined as a technical integration partner early on, working closely with Livingdocs to embed the CMS into Swisscom’s infrastructure, automate content imports, and enable a performance layer capable of handling thousands of daily updates. The previous Adobe CQ5 setup often caused slowdowns, editors waited minutes for publications, and heavy agency imports could stall operations entirely. The goal was to remove these bottlenecks, modernize the editorial experience, and unify all content types including news, entertainment, and sport under one fast, adaptable system. Centralsoft played a continuous role from the initial proof of concept through full rollout, ensuring that bluewin performs consistently even under the demands of real-time publishing and high traffic volume.
Problems
- Slow editorial workflow: The legacy CMS created long waiting times for publishing and frequent timeouts during agency imports, reducing newsroom efficiency.
- Manual sports coverage: Sports content lacked real-time data integration, forcing editors to update results and fixtures manually.
- Fragmented structure: Inconsistent templates across news, sport, and entertainment sections led to a disjointed editorial experience and visual inconsistency.
- Cumbersome multilingual publishing: Translating content for Switzerland’s German, French, and Italian regions was fully manual, delaying updates and introducing version mismatches.
- Performance under pressure: High traffic during national events or match days caused slow response times and periodic instability across web and mobile platforms.
Solutions
- Livingdocs integration: Centralsoft supported the migration to Livingdocs, introducing inline editing, live previews, and instant publishing through visual, drag-and-drop components.
- Automated import pipeline: A custom system now processes and categorizes thousands of agency articles daily, sending them straight to the CMS within seconds.
- Modular content framework: The platform was rebuilt around reusable components, headlines, galleries, videos, and long-form modules ensuring design consistency and flexible storytelling.
- Multilingual publishing workflow: A unified translation setup combines manual localization for German, French, and Italian with automated English generation via DeepL, all managed from one interface.
- Cross-platform performance layer: Caching and delivery optimizations guarantee stability and responsiveness across web, mobile, and Swisscom TV even during high-traffic events.

My newsroom works with thousands of documents every day. Thanks to Livingdocs and Centralsoft this not only became a lot faster but also a lot more fun.

Outcome & Impact
What began as a performance overhaul turned into a complete transformation of how bluewin operates as a newsroom. Through close collaboration between Swisscom, Livingdocs, and Centralsoft, the platform evolved into a real-time publishing engine where editorial, sports, and entertainment coexist on a unified, modular infrastructure fully adaptable to live events, breaking headlines, and multilingual delivery. Before, publishing speed depended on manual workflows, and system overloads could halt operations during peak hours. The transition to Livingdocs introduced a modern, component-based CMS that allowed editors to create, structure, and publish content directly on screen without external tools or delays. Centralsoft ensured the system would be both fast and sustainable. We built automation layers for agency imports, connected APIs for real-time sports data, and introduced modular components that could be reused across every content type. Thanks to these integrations, bluewin can now ingest, process, and publish thousands of stories daily with near-zero delay. For editors, this means complete control from crafting long-form pieces to scheduling homepage takeovers or live-match banners all within a clean, responsive interface. Multilingual editions (DE, FR, IT, EN) run in parallel, ensuring Swiss readers across all regions experience the same timeliness and accuracy. On the performance side, globally distributed static files and caching layers guarantee stability and uptime even during peaks caused by political events, national announcements, or major sports fixtures. What once felt like a high-maintenance portal has evolved into a fast, self-sustaining newsroom ecosystem one that reacts, scales, and delivers with precision.
Importing and publishing reduced from several minutes to near instant Over 1 000 imported agency stories per day Stable delivery across web, mobile, and TV devices Multilingual editions (DE, FR, IT, EN) live in parallel Zero downtime during record traffic spikes

Sports Center & Live Results
The Sports Center is a central part of bluewin sports coverage, a live hub built and maintained by Centralsoft that delivers real-time scores, commentary, and updates for Swiss sports fans. Developed and engineered by Centralsoft, it bridges real-time sports data with editorial storytelling and live commentary, giving users an interactive experience that updates automatically without the need to refresh. Covering more than 20 major leagues and tournaments, including the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, Premier League, Super League, and LaLiga, the system merges structured live data with rich editorial content in one seamless interface. Every matchday, live feeds for scores, fixtures, standings, and commentary merge directly with the newsroom’s storytelling. When a goal is scored, the page updates instantly, commentary reflects the moment, and related articles or interviews surface beside it. The design goes far beyond static tables: • A match hub where users can switch effortlessly between live scores, commentary, recaps, and multimedia coverage. • Responsive modules that adapt fluidly between desktop, tablet, and mobile. • Built-in caching and asynchronous updates that ensure millisecond responsiveness, even with tens of thousands of concurrent visitors. On the backend, editors operate in full autonomy scheduling match coverage, embedding live tables, updating commentary threads, or triggering banners tied to game outcomes. This combination of automation, stability, and editorial flexibility turned the Sports Center into a cornerstone of bluewin, a living product that blends data and human storytelling in real time, now serving as a model for future live-content projects across Swisscom’s ecosystem.
Multilingual Publishing Flow
Reflecting Switzerland’s linguistic diversity, bluewin operates seamlessly in German, French, Italian, and English, allowing localized versions of breaking stories to go live almost simultaneously. Centralsoft developed a hybrid translation workflow that combines human precision with automation efficiency. Editors can manually translate and synchronize regional editions, while DeepL integration automatically generates English versions within the CMS. Layouts, metadata, and links remain consistent across all languages. This setup allows bluewin to publish multilingual content in real time, maintaining both accuracy and brand consistency across every regional edition.

Editorial Workflow & Publishing Speed
The newsroom operates within a component-based environment that gives editors full control over every story. Inline editing, live previews, and real-time scheduling allow articles to be created, reviewed, and published within seconds without developer involvement. Reusable modules for headlines, galleries, videos, and long-form layouts ensure both speed and visual consistency. Whether it’s breaking news, daily updates, or event coverage, editors can publish instantly while maintaining design harmony across the site.

Entertainment Modules
The Entertainment section was built on the same modular foundation, giving editors flexible templates for lifestyle, celebrity, and film content. Automated layout balancing and image handling ensure visual harmony across articles, galleries, and interviews. This section now operates with the same efficiency and consistency as the newsroom and sports modules, creating a unified platform experience that is fast, cohesive, and easy to maintain.
